Artist Biography -
Dawn Harverson |
|
Dawn studied painting at Ravensbourne from 1976 to 1979 and
during this time her awareness of colour and form developed.
Subsequently she explored the art form further through the
demanding discipline of etching at the Central, St Martin's. The
need for precision in the planning, composition and execution of
etching enhanced Dawn's facility for translating her acute sense
of observation to detail, to her drawing.
In recent times Dawn's work has
evolved from what was fundamentally a reproductive process to a
more complex and subliminal art form.
From conceiving the flower as
an object purely in its own right, her sensitive perception has
moved on to a more encompassing and intricate visualisation in
which background plays a key role. The object is not seen in
isolation, rather it is enhanced by the light, colour and form
of its setting, thus imparting a powerful mood ambience. |

In this context the flowers become, rather than remaining
ambiguous, more enhanced by their very setting and take on a
magical quality. The resulting palpable vitality of her painting
speaks for itself. Dawn's work, apart from appearing in shared
exhibitions and several one-man shows, also forms part of
various private collections throughout Europe, the United States
of America and Australia.
Last year she had a one-man show
at the Oxo Gallery, Oxo Tower and Babington House in Somerset.
