| I work with
transparency, colour, and light to celebrate plants,
people and stories. My garden in all seasons inspires me,
particularly the alchemy of sunlight through petals and leaves.
I am passionate about discovering the lives of women in the
past, and celebrate these forgotten heroines in painted and
stitched portraits. As a
child I loved Toy Theatre and peepshows, with their illuminated
imaginary worlds, their layers of shifting landscape and magical
characters. I love the idea of artworks which change and shift
meaning when back lit , distressed and layered.
Trained as a historian, I left
teaching to become a full time textile artist in 1997. I now
have a studio in Cockpit Arts Deptford, where I use drawing and
calligraphy to interpret the evidence of photographs, paintings,
letters and memoirs. This work is figurative and accessible. |
