Artist Biography - Tom Butler

worked as a shipping solicitor in the City of London before retiring and taking a Foundation Course in Art and Design at Camberwell College of Arts.

Two years later I embarked on a postgraduate course in Book Arts, also at Camberwell, graduating in 2002 with an MA in Book Arts. Between these two courses I studied printmaking at Morley College with Richard Mitchell. I have always drawn and painted. I enjoy working en plein air, sketching, and collecting and using old photographs in mixed media works.

Threatening Skies, Suffolk by Tom Butler

I had solo exhibitions at Blackheath Halls in 1991 and 2003 and at the Norwegian Club in 1995, and have exhibited in group shows at Morley College, the Fry Gallery, the Law Society, Blackheath Art Society, Collyer-Bristow Gallery and La Maison de l'Avocat, Lille.

I designed and produced all the posters, about 100 in all, for the 2002/3 and 2003/4 seasons classical recitals at Blackheath Halls and for Friends' Events at the Halls.

As Chairman of the Law Society's Art Group for the past 6 years I have organised gallery and artists' studio visits, and painting expeditions (Tuscany, Venice, and the Greek Peleponnese).

Future plans include producing book works combining word and image arising out of project work at Camberwell on the theme 'Walks by the North Sea'.

Examples of Tom's art can be found on his Artists Page. If you are interested in buying any of Tom's artwork please refer to or Buying Art page.
