I studied art and design at the
Camden Institute, north London, in the late 1980s as a mature
student. I also took part, at about this time, in several wood
engraving weekend workshops. A small group of artists gathered
together in Somerset under the tutelage of Peter Reddick.
Many of my engravings reflect
rural scenes but I continue to experiment and have recently
produced work combining wood engraving with a collage
background.
All the boxwood blocks are printed
by hand on my own press. This is a faithful replica of a 19th
century Albion, scaled down to a size that fits on a table top.
A limited edition of the presses was manufactured in the 1980s
and I acquired mine (no. 33) in 1984.
