Artist Biography - June Holland

'When I started to paint I felt transported into a kind of paradise'. Henri Matisse.

As far back as I can remember I felt that way too. I find inspiration all around me, and enjoy using both watercolour and oils.

My recent work includes "Tea in the Kitchen", Wisteria blooming over the verandah, two portraits of musicians, and a rather fantastical view of my garden. I enjoy the challenge of new ideas, as seasons change I come back to old ideas and find new ways with them.

I began exhibiting with Blackheath Art Society in the 1960s. At their 1978 show, I sold a large painting of Jools Holland (my son).

Nesta's Garden III by June Holland

When BAS celebrated their bi-centenary, we were able to track down the owner who loaned the painting for the big Retrospective Show. For this show I painted a new portrait of Jools.

My work has been shown in South London generally, and annually at Llewellyn Alexander's Salon des Refuses, Waterloo and at Blackheath Art Society's shows.

I admire the work of Vuillard, Bonnard, Lucien Freud and many others.

I have studied painting for many years, largely independently, and still enjoy losing myself in the kind of Paradise which is called painting.
